This route, a beautiful section of the Colorado Trail, reminds me of riding in the densely forested hills back East. After the initial lung-searing climb, the ride is a fast and smooth spin through thick stands of aspen. The big descent to Halfmoon Road is less technical than steep, but it will challenge even advanced riders.

Some people prefer to ride this as a one-way with shuttles. As to which way is better, you decide. North-to-south has a greater net downhill, but starts with a short, fiendish climb. South-to-north starts with a 2.5-mile grunt uphill, but the downhill at the end is a whole lot of fun.
