This beautiful trail is a local favorite. The terrain is moderate, just easy enough for you to enjoy the magnificent scenery as you make your way around the lake. The trail also provides access to the historic Interlaken Resort—the only other way to get there is by boat!
Start with some easy/moderate single-track that skirts the lake until you arrive at the Interlaken Restoration Project. A few difficult, short, technical climbs come next, but before you know it, you’re flying like a demon through Twin Lakes on CO 82. A fun stretch of easy single-track drops you less than a mile from the parking area and trailhead.
For something different, start the ride from the town of Twin Lakes; plenty of parking is available at the Visitor Center across from the general store. If you stay at one of several Forest Service campgrounds or at one of the town’s inns, start the loop from there. Or, do this ride as an out-and-back by turning around at mile 5.4.
Note- crossing the dam may not be possible due to Homeland Security concerns. If the dam is open to bikes, no signs will be present. If it’s closed, prominent signs will be posted. Just follow any posted instructions and use your best judgement.
