If this ride doesn’t make you smile, check your pulse… you may be dead. Though short, the views are spectacular and the single-track sublime. Think of it as “concentrated happiness.” While I rarely take breaks while riding, I always stop several times along this route to behold the views, especially when the aspen are in fall color.
The ride begins with a mild climb on roads. Once you get to the Colorado Trail single-track, however, the fun really begins. By the time you reach the lake, the charm of the ride will have you mesmerized. Finish with a fast and easy spin back to the car on mellow-graded county roads.
To add about 3.5 miles and approximately 300’ feet of additional climbing, park and start the ride from the river access area across the highway from the Granite store.
Or, incorporate the Interlaken Loop at mile 5.5 to add almost 14 miles to this ride.
