Did you ever wonder if you have what it takes to finish the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike race? Or have you ever wanted to summit a 13’er on your bike? Or are you just a plain, old-fashioned masochist that delights in testing your pain threshold? If any of these apply, you’ll want to try this ride.

The ride itself, the crux climb of the Leadville Trail 100 racecourse, is not that bad. The first eight miles are, despite the tremendous gain in altitude, reasonably graded and easy to spin. Once you get above tree line things get a little tougher, but still manageable. The final half-mile push up to Point 13,130’ is slightly stupid and some hike-a-bike will be required if you go for it. If you need any consoling en route, just imagine how fast and fun the downhill return trip will be. ‘Nuff said. Get out there!
