Take a grueling tour of Leadville’s historic mining district as you scout the Silver Rush 50-mile race course. Don’t get frustrated while riding if you begin to feel like a rat trapped in a maze. Without the benefit of course marshals and flagging, you will probably have a very tough time following this route. Though the Google Earth route line depicted here wanders a bit from the actual roads, you can get a very accurate sense of the route by reading the book while zooming in on critical turns and landmarks.

Because the course tends to weave through a web of rugged, unmarked, and unmapped roads, your best bet for scouting is to load the .gpx file into a GPS and refer to the guidebook when in doubt (expect variances between your GPS mileage readings and the elevation-corrected values presented in the book). No GPS? Visit the official race web site and download the course map; be prepared to calibrate the mileage difference between your cycling computer and the values presented in the book.
